As the organization’s website (http://phialphatheta.org/) explains, Phi Alpha Theta (ΦΑΘ) is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history. The society has over 400,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through almost a thousand local chapters. A lifetime membership costs $50, and entitles members to apply for the honor society’s various prizes and scholarships. Membership also comes with a one-year subscription to the quarterly journal The Historian, and the opportunity for students to present original research at the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Meeting and at the regional meeting in the student’s area.
To qualify for membership, undergraduates must have a 3.1 GPA in at least four history classes (transfer credits in history classes are accepted) and at least a 3.0 general cumulative average; graduate students must have a 3.5 GPA in at least four graduate courses.
The Undergraduate Program Coordinator serves as the coordinator of our annual inductions.
